1. On this day,  in 1492 – Christopher Columbus became the first European to set foot on the island of Hispaniola (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic).
2. On this day,  in, 1766 – In London, James Christie hold his first sale.
James Christie was the founder of auction house Christie's. Christie's is an art business and a fine arts auction house, currently the worlds largest.
3. On this day,  in 1945 – Flight 19 is lost in the Bermuda Triangle.
Flight 19 was the designation of five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle on December 5, 1945 during a United States Navy overwater navigation training flight from Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
